Backstage Journal: Ayanagi Shou (Romeo et Juliette)

Backstage Journal is a short Kageki feature where very young cast members write anecdotes about what’s going on behind the scenes of the productions. They’re not very deep, being full of emojis and more like blog entries than articles, but they are a good way to get to know the newest actresses in each troupe, or to see what senior actresses got up to in their early days.

This one was written by Snow Troupe member Ayanagi Shou (of the 92nd class) during Otozuki Kei’s prodution of Romeo et Juliette, and published in the April 2011 issue.

Backstage Journal: Ayanagi Shou (Romeo et Juliette) – April 2011

Hello everyone! It’s been ages ✨ This is Ayanagi Shou, writing Backstage Journal for the second time!

This time, I’m going to showcase the passionate backstage scenes of Snow Troupe’s Tokyo production of Romeo et Juliette!!

Friar Lawrence side story?!

Everyone, do you ever wonder why Friar Lawrence didn’t make it there in time before Romeo and Juliette died? Don’t you want to know what really happened?

One day I discovered the truth 👀 During Romeo and Juliette’s death scene I saw Niwa-san (Souno) who plays Friar Lawrence, desperately looking for her lantern… But since that situation seemed to happen with every performance, I continued investigating, and what did I find? It turned out Montague team members Ouka [Reno] and Suzuse [Miuto] were the culprits hiding it for a prank ✨ Poor Niwa-san, searching so hard 💦 But wait!! If you look closely, she seems happy to be pranked  💖 💖 Since Friar Lawrence was enjoying himself like that, he was late in arriving at the crypt!! That’s the solution to the mystery of why he was just too late ✨ Niwa-san, I know you’re having fun on the way back but maybe sometime you could check on Juliette a little sooner (LOL) Currently I’m also being allowed to participate ✨

Where did the flower shop’s flowers end up?!

In the scene ‘Les Beauxs, Les Laids’, Mercutio, played by Chigi-san (Sagiri) climbs on a flower shop’s cart and begins throwing flowers. The Montague men and women hanging around town start fighting over the flowers and it ends up basically like a bargain sale. Since Chigi-san is flinging the flowers behind her, I heard of all kinds of incidents happening so I thought I’d describe some of those 😁

While normally the flowers were all neatly separated 🌸 🌸 one day a whole bundle of flowers fell out of the sky. The bundle of flowers all landed straight on Karen-san’s (Chikaze’s) forehead 💦 Another time Chigi-san was too excited and a lot of flowers ended up on the roof of the butcher shop. Getting it just right is surprisingly difficult, apparently.  There was also an incident 💖 of amazing serendipity 💖 once one of the thrown flowers landed in the gap around the lift so it seemed like a flower was blooming out of the floor 💖 💖 how lovely~   ✨ Also, also, one of these incidents happened to me too 💖 There are a bunch of badges on my costume, and once a flower bloomed there ✨ Those were the kind of things that happened. When I informed Chigi-san about it, she was really surprised!! She might not look it but Mercutio is quite the romantic 💖 💖 💖

While this is just a tiny bit of what happened backstage at Romeo et Juliette, I hope you enjoyed it ⭐️ Thank you for reading this whole thing!! Love from the passionate production of the newly formed Snow Troupe ⭐️
