How much hard work is concealed behind musumeyaku beauty? This column pursues their secrets!

Inside (Self Care)

Skin Care
My skin usually doesn’t tend to have issues, but once, for a while got so dry I couldn’t fix it no matter what i did. That’s why I started using SK-II. I use it in order—primer serum, toner, serum, skin cream—and now even if I’m abusing my skin it’s at least someone protected. For washing my face and cleansing I use a bottle of Honyu Cream Soap. I mix powdered enzymes into that and scrub diligently with lots of lather.

Body Care
Ever since my throat gave out a while back, I’ve been taking particular care of it. First, I do breathing exercises at home in the morning, then do breathing exercises again after I get to the theatre. Once I get home I do breathing exercises once again, and then use a dropper to apply a drop of bamfolin, an extract of kuma bamboo grass, to my throat. Also, when I sleep, I use tape on my mouth to prevent mouth breathing, put a mask on, and put hot water bottles under my neck and on my stomach.

Hair Care
My hair strands are thick, and also there’s a ridiculous amount of them, so it’s such a pain to control! Recently I switched salons to a place that specializes in hair care. I had them look into the condition my hair was in thoroughly, and for my shampoo I now use Aujua’s scalp care-emphasizing MOISTCALM, and their hair damage repairing conditioner IMMURISE. When drying my hair, I separate it into 3 sections, and then use a Fukugen hair dryer to dry it thoroughly, starting from the bottom. If you’re struggling with too much hair and have a good answer to dealing with it please let me know! (laughs)

Bath Time
Taking a quick shower and then falling asleep on the sofa before I realized what I was doing…is how I used to keep getting sick, so ever since then I’ve made sure to soak properly in warm water up to my shoulders. Ayura makes my favorite bath products. Sometimes I’ll make the bath room completely dark and meditate (laughs).

Meals
I love to eat, but I can’t eat a large amount at a time. So I love cooking for myself with my favorite seasonings in the amount I can eat! I especially like making a sweet and sour seasoning with soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. I make it a lot so I have confidence in my ability to eyeball it (laughs). I also made soup the other day, starting from scraping the kernels off the corn. I also like making sweets, so if you have requests I’ll make anything! (laughs)

Relaxation
I used to be the type to do nothing but think about my character all day on my day off, but I don’t think it’s good to steep myself in that too much, so recently I’ve tried to put some proper makeup on and fix my hair and go out somewhere. Sometimes I’ll go exploring in my car, too (laughs). Also, I love kids, so if I run into kids with their parents at somewhere like a park or a cafe I’ll chat with them and it cheers me up. If I see someone who brought a kid with them I’ll start up a conversation instantly (laughs).

Outside (Decoration)

Makeup
A non-Takarazuka makeup artist told me that since the whites of my eyes tend to show, in order to make them look less wide open I should use mascara thoroughly on my lower lashes and line my lower waterline with a brown eyeliner, so I’m trying that. As for the order I do my makeup in, after first washing my face with only water, I use an SK-II primer. After that I use MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder to secure it, do contouring and highlight, and then do the different details in order starting from my eyebrows. My natural complexion is super pale, so I try to use distinct, bright colors on my cheeks and lips. Since my base tone is yellow, I often pick coral pinks and orange tones.

Hair Styles
People often tell me that soft hairstyles suit me better than tight ones, so I’m always working to make soft arrangements that won’t completely fall apart. I love hair styling, so I have fun looking at magazines and trying to copy them, or trying to think of hairstyles that will work with the accessories I want to use. Today, I first curled all my hair, then twisted the top section and pinned it back. Then on both sides, I braided it and then twisted it to the back before fastening it with a hair elastic. After tying up the ponytails I made them into a double-ponytail and added a hair accessory, then finished up by curling the loose strands around my face with an 18mm curling iron!

Clothes and Accessories
Recently I’ve come to realize that I’m the type of person to switch out my whole wardrome depending on my role (laughs). During Arc de Triomphe, when I was playing Joan, I wore mostly pencil skirts, but when the rehearsals for Phantom started I got the image of Christine, and my liking for lace and other girly things came back to me. But when I went to get my personal color analysis done, they told me that pastels and other colors without grey undertones suit me, so I’m keeping that in mind. Also, my shoulders are broad but my hips are narrow, so I try to choose skirts that gather in around the waist.

Nails
I like a really natural look, where on first glance you might even think ‘did she even use nail polish?’, something without rhinestones or other ornaments, so generally I use either simple colors or perhaps a gradient. I don’t do nail polish when I’m in a Japanese-style production, and depending on the role I’ll sometimes think “Does this girl actually need nail polish?”. But I’ve had my nails tear when making accessories or during other fine hand work, so I’ll generally use something at least in order to strengthen them up (laughs).

Perfume
In general I don’t use it much, but Ayura’s Spirit of Ayura Eau de Parfum has a natural scent, so I use it sort of to purify myself (laughs). I’ll also use the “Florentine Iris” fragrance from men’s brand Ermengildo Zegna on days off, or when I want to boost my mood.
