Voyage with You – Moon Troupe (Tsukishiro Kanato and Umino Mitsuki)

Voyage With You was a Kageki photoshoot and interview feature where the Top Combi picked a destination and time period for a photoshoot, as well as having a talk about the location and related Takarazuka shows. Tsukishiro and Umino picked ‘Nostalgic Morocco’ as the setting for their feature, which was published in October of 2022.

What if we could travel to any time, anywhere…?

Nostalgic Morocco

After the photoshoot…

Tsukishiro: I think it felt even more like Morocco than I pictured, and somehow it seemed like the perfect fit for us. I could never have taken these photos by myself.

Umino: For the desert photos (the lap pillow shoot), I usually don’t get to look at Reiko-san (Tsukishiro) from this angle, so I was so nervous. I was praying I wouldn’t stop breathing.

Tsukishiro: (laughs).

Umino: The aura you were giving off helped me so much, and with the aesthetic of Morocco and the atmosphere of the James Bond movies both included I think these photos will turn out different than anything I’ve ever done before. I’m so excited, even though I might not look like it (laughs).

Tsukishiro: (laughs) I actually love the James Bond movies. There are so many in the series, but it feels like basically all of them start with some beautiful, mature scene between James Bond and some beautiful woman, that doesn’t seem to be related to the rest of the movie at all (laughs).

Umino: (laughs)

Tsukishiro: Each movie is set in a different country, so I think that’s one of the reasons I like the series, and this time I thought a “Morrocco Version” might be fun. I also picked these clothes because even James Bond wears suits even in a hot country, he’s in suits even in the desert. He’d be dressed head to toe in Tom Ford…Although I didn’t go that far (laughs).

Umino: This was my first time watching any James Bond, but this dress I’m wearing is inspired by the Bond Girls who always appear in the movies.

If you could actually go…?

Tsukishiro: There’s a hotel in Morocco I really want to stay at. I’ve genuinely been thinking about this; before this whole situation started I really wanted to go to Morocco.

Umino: Oh, really!

Tsukishiro: Yeah. So I wanted to stay at a beautiful hotel, and visit the markets and things…I’d struggle if I didn’t have some guidance, so I’d choose some optional add-on tours (laughs).

Umino: I’ve never experienced riding a horse all day, and the Sahara desert is famous, so I’d like to try going on a camel ride. I’m not really good with the heat, though, so I couldn’t do it for too long… Reiko-san, aren’t you bad with heat?

Tsukishiro: I guess I also couldn’t handle a lot. That’s why I was going to focus on the hotel stay, and also I think the nights in Morocco are really beautiful. So I’d have the camel rides and everything arranged for me…and dinner…so basically a full tour.

Umino: (laughs)

Tsukishiro: I couldn’t go on a long camel trek in the desert in the middle of the day, so please have the market and the camel ride set as optional features (laughs).

Shows you’d like to try

Tsukishiro: Back when I was a Takarazuka fan I watched Marakessh. I remember thinking it was really cool, and the songs felt unique.

Umino: I’ve seen Casablanca, although it was only on video.

Tsukishiro: Morocco just has such an atmosphere, like you shouldn’t just walk in blithely, but it still pulls you towards it…I’d love to do some kind of mature-feeling show set in that kind of Morocco. It would be so beautiful having lanterns in the set, like we used in this photoshoot.

Umino: It would. I took this chance to learn more things about Morocco, and it really is a place that attracts the heart… It would be wonderful if I could do a play where it felt like I was really there in that landscape.
