This photo and essay book was written by Moon Troupe Top Star Sena Jun and published during promotions for the 2008 show ME AND MY GIRL<\/em>, where Top Musumeyaku Ayano Kanami retired. It\u2019s very charming and occasionally emotional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some chapters are very short, or contain only pictures, and thus are combined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The book also featured dual Japanese and English chapter titles, which were not always the same. Where these differ, both are included, with the translation of the Japanese title following in brackets. (For example, Chapter 8 is That time [The era of Asa and Osako]<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

002. Strawberry Battle [Strawberry Battle (childhood)]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m a mama\u2019s girl. I love my mom.
I talk about my mom everywhere\u2026so,
Since I always end up neglecting my father, I\u2019d like to give him some time in the spotlight here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My father is a salaryman.
You often hear \u2018nothing but a salaryman\u2019 but it\u2019s just the opposite.
Salarymen are incredible.
And among them, my father is a \u2018Super Salaryman\u2019.
(Though I couldn\u2019t say what he actually does at his company.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I was little, my father always got home really late at night.
Sometimes he was tipsy and in a good mood, sometimes he was cross\u2026
But once in a while he would come home early with presents he had bought for us.
And on the days he\u2019d bring strawberries\u2026
Our family\u2019s traditional \u2018Strawberry Battle\u2019 would commence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The four of us would sit in seiza<\/em> around our kotatsu.<\/em>
On the kotatsu <\/em>are dishes for each of us and the strawberries.
Rock-paper-scissors.
Adults, kids\u2026that doesn\u2019t have anything to do with it.
The winner of each round gets to grab a strawberry.
One day, I didn\u2019t win a single time, so I didn\u2019t get even one strawberry.
But after all, I\u2019m still just a kid in the first grade of elementary school.
Surely Mom or Dad will give me one?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026Not likely!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dad:<\/em> \u2018You\u2019re not getting one!\u2019
Mom:<\/em> \u2018I\u2019m sorry, but\u2026\u2019
Big Brother:<\/em> \u2018\u2026\u2026. (silently eating)\u2019
\u2026I cried. I cried really hard.
And then my father looked at me with a smile.
Dad:<\/em> \u2018They\u2019re delicious\u2026\u2019
No pity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the kind of dad he is.
And that dad, two years ago, had his first grandchild.
This is what my dad said before it was born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dad:<\/em> \u2018But in the end, I think my own kids come first, before my grandkids.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For real\u2026?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And right now, my dad\u2019s cell phone wallpaper, instead of a picture of Sena Jun, is a photo of a cute little 2-year-old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
