This photo and essay book was written by Moon Troupe Top Star Sena Jun and published during promotions for the 2008 show ME AND MY GIRL<\/em>, where Top Musumeyaku Ayano Kanami retired. It\u2019s very charming and occasionally emotional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some chapters are very short, or contain only pictures, and thus are combined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The book also featured dual Japanese and English chapter titles, which were not always the same. Where these differ, both are included, with the translation of the Japanese title following in brackets. (For example, Chapter 8 is That time [The era of Asa and Osako]<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

It was my first time having a Dinner Show1<\/sup>.
This was the end of my ken-9 year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a ton I wanted to do, and I also wanted to improve my singing.
And above all, I wanted to make sure the audience had fun\u2026
I was so stoked about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were so many consultation meetings with the creative staff.
Format, song selection, there was so much to discuss.
So this is how a show is made\u2026
I got more and more excited as all these discussions happened right in front of me.
And then the cast.
Tomu, Miho, Sonoka, Ichika2<\/sup>.
We were all so young.
(Well, except Tomu)3<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then rehearsals started and the battle was on in earnest.
Me versus my inabilities\u2026
Was the idea.
I wanted to fight but it didn\u2019t turn out that way.
I couldn\u2019t think of myself as unable to do anything so I ran away from myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018I\u2019ll just enjoy this\u2019, \u2018I\u2019ll just relax\u2019\u2026I was so naive.
But the choreographer saw through this naive part of me.
After we were about a week into rehearsals, they4<\/sup> asked me this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAsako, what do you want to do?
What do you want to become?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was no way I could answer\u2026
Not since I ran away from my own inabilities, I didn\u2019t even push myself to work hard,
And all I did was have fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People often say \u201cIf you aren\u2019t enjoying yourself, you can\u2019t make other people enjoy what you\u2019re doing,\u201d but that isn\u2019t quite right.
That\u2019s certainly important, but I think that if first you don\u2019t struggle and fight to create something, you won\u2019t be able to stir emotions in others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day I went to the choreographer and declared in a loud voice,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to be Top Star! I want to become a Top Star!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though I was thinking, wow, I said something so big\u2026 \ud83d\udca6
But those were earnest feelings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Words really have incredible power.
The moment they\u2019re spoken they become powerful \u2018sacred sounds\u20195<\/sup> that resonate with the self and others.
These \u2018sacred sounds\u2019 gave the staff, the cast, and especially myself \u201cmotivation, dedication, conviction.\u201d
Something within me definitely changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This showed in the main performances as well.
The next performance was Michaelangelo\/VIVA!!, when I received that letter from Director X6<\/sup>.
I think this really lit a fire in my eyes\u2026
So much that I could even notice it myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ever since then, as if I\u2019m putting pressure on myself,
I\u2019ll find all of the \u201cmotivation, dedication, conviction\u201d that I have and pronounce the \u2018sacred sounds\u2019.
I don\u2019t have any confidence.
But I\u2019ll slowly and at my own pace work (as seen earlier) towards those words that I declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For as long as those words become \u2018sacred sounds\u2019 and give me strength\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
