In the first part, Maa-sama lists several of her likes and dislikes.\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/zukalations.com\/index.php\/2017\/10\/16\/asaka-manato-anything-part-2\/\">Part 2 here.<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Asaka Manato &#8211; \u2018Anything\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Likes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Driving<\/em><br>When it\u2019s sunset and I\u2019m on the expressway driving from Nishinomiya to Kobe, the light of the setting sun is right ahead and it\u2019s dazzlingly bright but so pretty!! I also like when I\u2019m on Hanshin Expressway 11 and an airplane headed towards Itami Airport passes right overhead. I\u2019m like &#8216;oh boy, here it comes~!!\u2019 (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>When I first set foot in Hawaii! \u2026and since that\u2019s the airport, the moment I arrive in Waikiki!<\/em><br>The air in Hawaii is so fresh and it feels so free &#8211; I never get tired of going there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>During rehearsals when even though it\u2019s a drag everyone keeps working along and gradually I can see it coming together until Bam! There\u2019s a moment when it all makes sense.<\/em><br>I never get tired of that feeling &#8211; &#8216;We\u2019re all putting this show together!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>After the show when we\u2019re chatting in the Leaders\u2019 Room<sup>1<\/sup><\/em><br>We had tons of laughs during the last show,&nbsp;<em>Chateau de la Reine<\/em>. We\u2019d talk about the goings-on of that day\u2019s show and just take off from there. I enjoy those times that are just silly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>When I get something dealt with skillfully<\/em><br>I consider how I can get whatever it is done with the least wasted energy. Even if something totally unexpected comes up I\u2019ll think of a spur-of-the-moment idea for what\u2019s best to do in the current situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>During the parade when I finish crossing the Silver Bridge and manage to gracefully switch directions on the intersection with the secondary Silver Bridge<sup>2<\/sup><\/em><br>I like the moment when I have to change directions while wearing the feathers, with the orchestra pit in front of me and the junior actresses lined up behind me. Up until&nbsp;<em>HOT EYES<\/em>&nbsp;I would be show-offy about it, but in&nbsp;<em>VIVA! FESTA!<\/em>&nbsp;I had an adult composure about it at last (laughs) so I did it a lot more smoothly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Going shopping in Kobe<\/em><br>Usually it\u2019s for clothes. It\u2019s fun just looking~<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dislikes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Waiting in the wings for the curtain to rise in the winter<\/em><br>I\u2019m really bad with cold temperatures\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Cinnamon<\/em><br>Cinnamon isn\u2019t something you really have many chances to try as a kid, right? But then I grew up and joined Takarazuka, and when I encountered a cinnamon roll for the first time I was like &#8216;what is this flavor?!?!\u2019. It was as if my senses were being assaulted\u2026 I\u2019m not a fan of intense flavors, so I don\u2019t like cilantro much either\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Once it\u2019s past 6pm on a day off<\/em><br>Once I think &#8216;oh, the holiday\u2019s over\u2019 I miss it a lot right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Dryness<\/em><br>It\u2019s the arch-enemy of my throat so I really hate it. Therefore I always have to have a humidifier. If I feel like I\u2019m not getting enough moisture then every time it turns on (laughs) I\u2019ll be like &#8216;sniff-sniff-sniff\u2019!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>My costume room at home, where no matter how I clean and clean it never gets straightened up<\/em><br>I enjoy organizing, and I get rid of things according to a schedule, but I can never really catch up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>When there\u2019s unforecasted traffic congestion<\/em><br>When I think it\u2019s going to be clear but then I get on the road and it\u2019s crowded. No matter my plans there\u2019s nothing I can do about it\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Unpacking after I get back from Tokyo or National Tour performances<\/em><br>When I\u2019m packing, I\u2019m thinking &#8216;Oh, why don\u2019t I take this, why don\u2019t I take that\u2019 so it\u2019s pretty fun, but when it\u2019s all over and I have to unpack there\u2019s nothing to look forward to (laughs). At times when I get back from Tokyo and the next show is a national tour or whatever, I\u2019ll just leave the luggage as is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 &#8211; A special dressing room reserved for the most senior members of the troupe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2 &#8211; I think the&nbsp;\u2018secondary Silver Bridge\u2019 is the parts leading off to the side exits; this certainly matches her description but it\u2019s not a term I have encountered elsewhere.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This was published in the May 2017 issue of GRAPH.
