This talk session with the brand-new Top Combi and nibante of Cosmos Troupe was published in the March 1998 issue of Kageki. At the time the talk was recorded, Cosmos Troupe had yet to stage a full performance; they were just about to leave for their inaugural Hong Kong tour,\u00a0Mugen Houjushou\/This is TAKARAZUKA!<\/em>. It was published after they had returned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Cosmos Troupe Top Trio Talk – Soaring into the heavens!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants: Shizuki Asato, Wao Youka, Hanafusa Mari<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> Ever since you were in Moon Troupe, I would go and see Zunko-san\u2019s shows as often as I could make time for it. \u2018She\u2019s so big\u2019 I\u2019d think. I thought ‘I want to look that big to people one day.\u2019 (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> The Snow Troupe show I have the most distinct impression of is Elisabeth<\/em>. When I ran into Flower-chan (Hanafusa) in the theatre I thought ‘Ah! It\u2019s Elisabeth <3\u2019 and started talking with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> That was the first time you spoke to me, I think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em>\u00a0But the first time the three of us really started talking and hanging out was in May, when we all went to Hong Kong for work1<\/sup>. That was when I discovered Takako (Wao) isn\u2019t a morning person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> Zunko-san really is super perky even in the mornings. The poster photoshoot was early in the morning, and while I arrived at the studio still half-asleep, Zunko turned up full of energy and was like ‘GOOD MORNING!!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> It was certainly surprising. In the rehearsals before Taiwan, I recieved a lot of wake-up phone calls for Zunko-san.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> Speaking of that May trip, you know\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> Shockingly, due to Zunko-san and I oversleeping, we missed one of our appointments\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> I went and knocked on Zunko-san\u2019s door at the meeting time, but she was still sleeping. ‘No way!\u2019 I thought, but then so was Takako! (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> I remember you had gone totally pale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> Even so, I felt a ton of LOVE <3 for Zunko-san at that time (laughs). I was like ‘Even Zunko-san can oversleep sometimes too\u2026I\u2019m so happy~\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> We felt so bad so we went and apologized really abjectly, but the board member who had accompanied us just said ‘you\u2019re making such a big deal of it\u2019 and laughed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> We were really so remorseful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> At that time, Takako had to return to Japan alone ahead of the rest of us, so Flower-chan and I sent her a fax message. We got a reply back right away, which startled us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> That was so much fun~<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> It was a time when I had to get my script down perfectly, so I was really on edge and that made me feel so much better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> After that, Zunko-san had a show in the Grand Theatre, and us two were performing in Tokyo, so we started corresponding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> The letters from you two were such a boost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> I feel like we gradually became much closer through that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> The first show I saw of yours after getting to know you properly, Ghost at Midnight<\/em>, was especially fun because of that. ‘Wow~ Such fun people, but they\u2019re acting so earnestly~,\u2019 I thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> Meanwhile we were like ‘Wow, ~that~ Zunko really can put on a wonderful show somehow~\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> What the heck, you guys (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao: <\/em>But I think being silly in normal life can actually be beneficial to stage performing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> Yeah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao, Hanafusa:<\/em> (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> Having through about it, putting together a new troupe is really an unbelievable amount of responsibility. But when I think about being with such cheerful, nice people, I feel like I\u2019ll be able to do my best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> Me too. If I was thinking about just me, it would be so much stress, but then I\u2019m like, Zunko-san is there, Takako-san is there\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> With us around you won\u2019t get a chance to feel stressed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki, Hanafusa:<\/em> (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> It really gives me a lot of courage somehow. Even though I\u2019d been stressed, once the rehearsals for the Taiwan tour started I was like ‘I can really live with these people~\u2019 and it changed to a really safe feeling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> The rehearsals for the Taiwan performance were really fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> While we had worked together before, we\u2019d never had any rehearsals together, right? It was the first time I saw you two behave seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> As for Zunko-san, I just couldn\u2019t get over the difference between your normal attitude and your rehearsal attitude (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> I\u2019m honestly kind of embarrassed to have people watch me being so dedicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> Zunko-san is the type to crack and start laughing really easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> At the beginning I would blush all the way through the duet dances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao: <\/em>Seeing Zunko-san and Hana (Hanafusa) as a couple was too funny (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> So it does look that way\u2026 (laughs) Once in a while we\u2019d just start laughing during the dance. It was so fun~<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> I was singing while looking at you, and you were really lovely~<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> A smile that wells up from inside you is a really precious thing, I think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> You\u2019re such a magnanimous couple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> She\u2019s always helping me out so much. In the dress rehearsal, when it seemed I might fall down the Grand Stairs, she grabbed me and held me up. She\u2019s so trustworthy~<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> In return for that, I do fling myself at you in the tango scene, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> Go ahead, as often as you like. It\u2019s a trial of strength between us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> Thank you (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> While we\u2019ve been desperately trying to deal with all this new stuff, I feel like in a time like this, rather than settling on a goal to work towards, we\u2019ll get something more significant out of it if we just let it all happen naturally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> I think you\u2019re right. After all, not having a specific style is ‘Cosmos Troupe style\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki: <\/em>Right, right. I think it would be best if we let what everyone has to offer come together of its own accord. Of course I feel responsibility as the leader of a brand new troupe, but if I think about it, I don\u2019t have any strange feeling about being Top – I feel like I ended up here today naturally. Therefore I\u2019ve decided not to hide my weak points, but acknowledge that the things I can\u2019t do, I can\u2019t do, and learn from everyone else in those areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao: <\/em>Zunko-san has always been a spontaneous type.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> It\u2019s easy to declare ‘I\u2019ll do my best\u2019, but I want to go in without having to say that so seriously. The more of a drag rehearsals were, the more we laughed about it afterwards, right? I think that\u2019s because there\u2019s such a good atmosphere in the rehearsal room, and because everyone is heading towards the same goal we are experiencing the same feelings. Therefore, I think being able to laugh about it so much right now is a sign of how hard we\u2019re working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> We\u2019re a troupe full of laughter, aren\u2019t we.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> I often get asked in interviews ‘what kind of shows do you want to do?\u2019 but there too, it\u2019s not that I\u2019m desiring anything in particular, but I am looking forward to whatever I might encounter, I think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> That\u2019s right. It\u2019s more fun to look forward to things and think ‘I wonder what show I\u2019ll be able to do next!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> While of course it\u2019s good if you can be like ‘I\u2019m this sort of performer, so I\u2019d like to play these sorts of roles,\u2019 and keep that in mind, but I don\u2019t really understand what kind of style I have\u2026 In the 11 years before I got here, my way of thinking about it was to take the roles given to me and try to immerse myself in them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> Thinking about it as an observer, your style in a suit for FAKE LOVE<\/em> was simply wonderful, so I think I\u2019d like to see that once again. Also, I haven\u2019t seen you in period noble costumes much, so that would be nice to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> I\u2019ve not done much with themes of manly friendship and such, so that might be fun. Flower-chan, you going from young Elisabeth to grown-up Elisabeth left quite an impression, but I\u2019d like to see you play a more high-spirited, energetic young girl or something\u2026but you\u2019d also be lovely in sexy adult roles. Everything looks good on you, so I want you to wear all sorts of costumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> And Zunko-san will wear those costumes as well, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki: <\/em>Sure. I\u2019ll put them on in the wings, so make sure you get photos (laughs). Takako and Flower-chan were together in Snow Troupe, so do you know each other well?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> We\u2019ve been paired up in shows, so\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao: <\/em>Hana is a really fun person. But recently, I feel like she\u2019s gradually been becoming even more fun. I don\u2019t know when that started or how, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> Who are you talking about?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao: <\/em>I\u2019m talking about you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> Well, Hana\u2019s like that, but the three of us space out a lot, don\u2019t we.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> We\u2019re all O-types together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> Zunko-san, aren\u2019t you a Pisces?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> Yeah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa: <\/em>An O-type Pisces makes you the same as me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki:<\/em> \u2026\u2026? You\u2019re an O-type Pisces too?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:\u00a0<\/em>Didn\u2019t you already get really excited to discover that while we were in Hong Kong!?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hanafusa:<\/em> Gosh, it\u2019s like you don\u2019t listen to a word I say!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wao:<\/em> See, readers, we really don\u2019t get on at all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shizuki, Hanafusa:<\/em>\u00a0(laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
