Sparkling TIME is a long-running photo\/talk feature from Kageki<\/em>. An and Shou\u2019s was published in the September 2016 issue. They are classmates from the 92nd class; at the time, Houzuki was in Flower Troupe and Ayanagi in Snow Troupe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> You know, I was a big fan of Chinatsu (Houzuki) ever since we were in the Takarazuka Music School (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki<\/em>: No way, no way, what are you talking about? (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Don\u2019t you remember what I\u2019ve been saying this whole time!?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki: <\/em>Hmmm~ I remember you told me something (laughs). But it wasn\u2019t that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi: <\/em>Come on! You\u2019re so slender, and your limbs are so long, I was like, what are you, a crane?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki<\/em>: Ahaha! (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> I felt like that was the first time I had ever seen such a stylish person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> The first time I met you, Ayaka-chan (Ayanagi) already had (points at Ayanagi) that kind of aesthetic, so I thought you were really amazing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Huh? What\u2019s this? (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> But like, usually, people have to get past their baby stage, right? (laughs) But in Ayaka-chan\u2019s case, even the first moment I laid eyes on you you were already so pretty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> No, no, no (laughs). In our class, the two of us were the youngest, so we were still really childish, weren\u2019t we.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> For sure. But especially me, I kept feeling like \u2018am I gonna be okay?\u2019 (laughs). I\u2019m so startled at Ayaka-chan\u2019s beauty when I look at photos from back then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> No, no! That\u2019s not true at all (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> And then for this I was able to do a photoshoot together with the beautiful Ayaka-chan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Haha (laughs). This is the first time the two of us have been in a photoshoot together. We\u2019ve done some things together, like when a bunch of people appeared for the New Years\u2019 program on Sky Stage, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Yeah. There was that. That was the one where my gaze was too strong in one feature and I got scolded (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Right, right (laughs). But since it\u2019s only been that, when I heard about the photoshoot I was really happy, and the real deal was very fun too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Same here!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> We both wore animal print (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> It ended up being pretty \u2018wild style\u2019 (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> We don\u2019t normally have many opportunities to talk in-depth, since we\u2019re in different troupes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Yeah. But even if we\u2019re out of touch for a while, if we run into each other we can converse easily; I think that\u2019s probably because we\u2019re classmates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> That\u2019s true. \u2026The two of us are both a little too laid-back, aren\u2019t we? (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> I get people telling me that all the time (laughs). But you\u2019re not laid-back at all, Ayaka-chan. You\u2019re just a naturally calm person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Really? That\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve heard that (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki: <\/em>Well, this is coming from me, though (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Got it (laughs). I think we probably both just like going with the flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> That\u2019s it. I like going along with other people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> I\u2019m very flexible, like \u2018Whatever is fine~\u2019. But sometimes I struggle with making decisions when I actually have to (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Right, right (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> But Chinatsu is really so amiable, I\u2019ve never really seen you get angry ever, even in TMS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Hm, that\u2019s true I guess. But also for Ayaka-chan, my impression of you even in TMS was that you were very mature and while you were quiet you had a lot going on internally. Huh? Hey, did we ever have any classes together?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Uh, music or something? No, maybe not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> I don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t really have any memories of my time in TMS (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Me either!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> I guess that just happens to some people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> But I have a ton of photos I took together with Chinatsu. I even have one of us making strawberry jam together during a field trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Right, we did that! I have a photo of that too (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Right? There\u2019s a bunch of others\u2026I really have a lot with you. I must have been going after you all the time like \u2018Take a photo with me~!\u2019 (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Haha (laughs). But I was really shy, so at the time I don\u2019t think I was able to converse with people very well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi: <\/em>Yeah, same here. I\u2019ve only become able to talk with people so easily since entering the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> The two of us have trained in a lot of things (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi: <\/em>We\u2019ve really grown up, haven\u2019t we (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Recently, I was able to go and see the Snow Troupe show Sun in the Last Days of the Shogunate\/DRAMATIC \u201cS\u201d!<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Oh, you came to see the show, Chinatsu?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Yeah! I thought \u2018Ayaka-chan really has such a splendid aura.\u2019 Just coming on stage you can feel in the audience \u2018she\u2019s so awesome, she\u2019s so cool~\u2019, which is a big thing already, but you\u2019re not even doing it on purpose\u2026 I especially love seeing Ayaka-chan perform in revues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Really?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> It\u2019s really exhilarating. It makes me feel \u2018I\u2019m really watching Takarazuka!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Really\u2026thank you! Though it\u2019s a little embarrassing when I have to yell and such (laughs). How long has it been since you transferred from Moon Troupe to Flower Troupe, Chinatsu?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki: <\/em>Uh\u2026three years, maybe?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> You know, when I see Chinatsu\u2019s performances, it makes me think that, not to mention your transfer, you\u2019ve had many different experiences in the process of becoming a senior actress, and I can feel your determination of \u2018this is the sort of otokoyaku I want to be\u2019. Chinatsu\u2019s otokoyaku ideal\u2026for one thing, I think it\u2019s really amazing that you had such a firm vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Ahhh\u2026thank you so much. Yeah, you do shout a lot (laughs). Ayaka-chan, is there any role you\u2019ve thought you would really like to do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Well, there are a lot, but\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Snow Troupe does a lot of traditional-style shows, so I picture Ayaka-chan as wearing hakama all the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em>\u00a0Really? Once I ended up being the \u2018hakama specialist\u2019 for a year (laughs)1<\/sup>. Oh! Sometime, in a traditional-style show, I\u2019d like to play a youthful kabuki actor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Wearing just a kimono\u2026 ahhh, you\u2019d be so pretty!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> What about you, Chinatsu?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Hm? I wonder what\u2026and here I was asking you (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> What about a really villainous character. Someone totally black-hearted, how would that be?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki: <\/em>Yeah, that I\u2019d like to try. I\u2019d like to try some really in-depth acting in a small theatre, and for that I might like to play a totally irredeemable villain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> A complete break from what you\u2019ve done so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Yeah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> We\u2019ve ended up becoming rather senior in our troupes, haven\u2019t we?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> You\u2019re right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> In this situation, it\u2019s not just important to be secure as your own otokoyaku, but I\u2019m also really conscious of what I\u2019m doing to support my troupe. Therefore, in order to help with that, I have especially now been thinking of how important it is to be as complete a character as possible in the story of each production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Right, I get that. As you progress towards being a senior actress, there\u2019s a sense that both your good and bad traits are becoming more fixed, so you\u2019re always trying to be aware of anything you can do to be the most appealing\u2026 But unlike when I was a junior actress, when I was so desperately focused on trying to improve myself, now that I am a senior actress I can pay more attention to what is going on around me, and as I calm down a bit I\u2019m hoping I can continue to see changes within myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em> Right. By the way, I just now thought of this, but Chinatsu is such a good listener.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Houzuki:<\/em> Huh? So sudden (laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ayanagi:<\/em>\u00a0(laughs)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
